Basic Training Parts 1 & 2 (In-Person)

This Basic training is for those required to pass the IRS Basic certification exam (Intake Specialists and Tax Preparers). Recommended for new volunteers and/or returning/experienced volunteers who want a refresher.

This training will cover the scope of the VITA program, including client eligibility, income, filing status, dependency exemptions and standard deductions, and utilize TaxSlayer to complete the Basic certification exam. 

Prerequisites: 

This training requires completion of the following tasks PRIOR TO attendance:

1. Becoming A Volunteer with CWF - 2026 (15 minutes)
2. The Standards of Volunteer Conduct/Intake Process - 2026 (15 minutes)
3. Pass the 2 introductory exams on Link&Learn (IRS Certification site) (20 minutes)
   1. Volunteer Standards of Conduct (10 questions)
   2. Intake/Interview & Quality Review (10 questions)
4. Intro to TaxSlayer Practice Lab - 2026 (15 mins)
5. Completing a Return in TaxSlayer - 2026 (5 minutes)

What to Bring:

• Photo ID to present to the security person when you enter

• Computer for practice scenarios, (we will have a limited amount available for those who are not able to bring their own)

• Lunch will be provided for all Saturday training
